Gardening With Kids

With summer approaching fast, it is time to think about spending more time with the kids. Here are a few great ideas on how you can involve the kids in your gardening projects. Getting them interested in a gardening project also gives them a healthy alternative to the TV!

Have them help you plant flowers and vegetables in the yard. Take them to the nursery and help them pick out flowers and vegetables to plant. Give them guidance as they select plants, but let them choose. You may want to give them their very own planter to work with.

Insure their success by amending the soil with plenty of planter mix and a well-balanced fertilizer. And check to make sure the watering system is working properly.

Create a Living Teepee for kids to play in. Tie the top of 6-8 bamboo stakes together. Stakes should be about 6’ tall. Spread the bottom of the stakes out in a circle. Plant a fast growing vine at the bottom of each stake. The vines will cover the stakes in no time and you will have the coolest fort in the neighborhood.
